I have been breeding Cichlids for about a year
Mostly the Jewels
USA - Jackosnville Beach, FL
I have done some research on the breeding process. I do most of my research online or at the library. Mostly I watch what my cichlids are doing and then I research the behavior I have noticed, such as the aggression, amazing parenting they seem to do and the brooding/spawning process.

Yes I used to travel deep into the Amazons in South America to study cichlids in the wild. My next trip will be in Jan 2008 to Costa Rica where I will scuba dive and take some water samples that I need for some current research I am doing on marine species. Wolf

1. How long breeding cichlids? I have been breeding my cichlids off and on for 20 yrs.
2. I used to breed central and south american cichlids, recently i have taken up african cichlids and successfully spawned albino strawberry peacocks. Very different from the new world, i would say easier.
3.I am from a small town in Upstate NY (near candadian border)
4. I have never went anywhere to research breeding but when i decide i want to breed a pair of fish i own i research online and at the library. I then watch my own fish spawn and note any successes with tips i got from books, other breeders etc...

The jack dempsey might need a bigger tank as it grows. Might do better in the 90 when you get it set up and cycled. Remember if you dont cycle it first with no fish you will need to do lots of waterchanges, daily , or your fish will likely die. I wrote a article about how to do it, its posted in the article section on the main page.
