how do I cure the white fungus on my ruby red peacocks eye? they are eating. they are swimming ok. I have tranferred them to a hospital tank and added Jungle Fungus Guard it's been 4 days and still no relief. today I will do the recommended water change and try another dose. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Hello. Welcome. This can be a annoying problem. It is usually a bacterial conditon brought on by over feeding or not vacuming well enough. Most african cichlids like alot of rockwork that can conceal or hide debris that sits under there rotting and fouling the tank. I had a fish that died under the rockwork and made a real mess of the tank...I have had luck doing a good cleaning on the tank (50 percent water change and good vacuming, removing rockwork to clean under and behind if needed). I then add in melafix and follow the directions on the bottle. i have had good success and notice improvement quickly. That is my suggestion for you. The regular waterchanges should help alot to clear this condition up too. Keep us informed on if it helps.

Thank you and I will try the larger water change. I usually do about 12 to 15 gals. every 2 weeks. and change or clean filters every month. The jungle Fungus Guard seems to have helped a little but I might switch up to melafix. I don"t want to lose these fish. I am picking up 6 young haplachromis milomo today in about an hour the guy bought them at 1/4 inch and they are now 1 1/2 inchs. he only got 18 of these and will only sell the 6 so I am just glad to get them.

Hi, Just wanted to let you know that the fungus is coming off the peacocks eye. I tried to find melafix and the pet shops didn't have any. I went to the guy I usually talk to. he owns a pet shop and also has another full time job as a Wetlands Consultant ( environmental concerns, wetland restoration, installation ). he is going to see one of his importers in November in Brazil. To study more about earth-eaters among other things. anyway he gave me some triple sulfa and I followed the directions and overnight they look better. hopefully they will stay that way. thanks for your help and I'm sure melafix will be in my cabinet as soon as I can find time to drive 100 miles to a larger pet shop in Milwaukee. Thanks Again.

I get mine from walmart in the fish/pet section. Its cheaper there too. (4.95 ea). They also have pimafix as well. (alot of people like to use both inconjunction with each other. Both are made by API. If they dont have it on the shelf i bet they can order it for you or you can order it online from walmart and either have it shipped to your home or to nearest walmart for pick up. I would check at walmart and if you dont see it go to the customer service desk. You should not have to drive 100 miles !!

Hi Jeff, I too had a fungus problem of the eye of one of my larger Haps, water changes worked and I used a product from Jungle called fungus clear I followed all the instructions on the box and managed to solve the problem using two doses this product can be found at your local Wal-Mart and is very inexpensive and effective. Hope this will be helpful for the future and thank you for posting.
